Today is Hunger Action Day—a time when people across the country come together to take action against hunger by volunteering, advocating, and giving in their communities. As part of this day, I want to share with you the words of our fellow New Yorker, Carlos.

Carlos worked at a parking garage in Manhattan until his hours were significantly reduced due to the pandemic.

To help make ends meet, Carlos has been coming to our St. Mary's Mobile Market in the Bronx and picking up food for his family. He told us:

The Economic Fallout of the Pandemic has left a staggering number of New Yorkers unemployed

"I also share it with the people in my building. I can't see anyone in need and not do anything about it."

Carlos’ story both inspires me and reminds me that we are all in this together. That’s because we are, and have always been, about neighbors helping neighbors. Carlos' story is a prime example of just that—he has even started volunteering with City Harvest because he wants to give back.

We’ve heard similar stories from so many New Yorkers during this crisis. The economic fallout of COVID-19 has left more than one in every five New Yorkers unemployed.

To help us rescue and deliver food for as many New Yorkers as possible, two generous friends of City Harvest are matching all gifts, dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000, until September 30. Donate now so that your gift can go twice as far.

If we work together, we can rescue and deliver enough nourishing food to help feed more than 6,000 children and their families this month. With so much uncertainty, it’s more important than ever before that we step up and take care of one another. Thank you.

P.S. Every dollar will go twice as far thanks to these matching funds. Your gift today will ensure that a New York City family has good, nutritious food on their table tonight. Together, we can drive hope for our neighbors. Thank you for everything you continue to do to help us feed NYC.
