The unfolding COVID-19 crisis in our city is urgent and has made this an uncertain time for all of us. With schools, restaurants, and many other businesses forced to close, many more New Yorkers are already joining the 2.5 million of our neighbors who turn to us to put meals on their tables. The need for emergency food in our city is rapidly rising. City Harvest has mobilized in response.
We have adjusted our operations in accordance with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and our trucks remain on the road, rescuing and delivering food for everyone who needs us today and may need us tomorrow. We are committed to ensuring all children and their families in our city have access to the food they need for the duration of this crisis and beyond. Below are a few of the ways we have been responding, as well as what you can do to help. Together, we will feed our city.

Restaurants Step Up & Give 50K+ Pounds |
Feeding NYC's Children and Families |
Our Food Council members' restaurants are suffering, and many have temporarily closed. We are in close touch with them to understand how we can support them and their employees. Nearly 50 restaurants have donated over 50,000 pounds of food, and we are delivering these donations to community food partners across the city. We are grateful for the restaurant community's support at this challenging time. We have been touched by the many messages we have received from people interested in donating food. In order to operate efficiently and responsibly to best meet the current needs of our agency partners, we have adapted our food donation policy.

With public schools closed, we are working hard to ensure children and their families have food. In the last week, our staff and volunteers repacked some 120,000 pounds of food, including peanut butter, canned salmon, granola bars, and water into family-sized bags. We are distributing this food to families through our agency partners and Mobile Markets. Thank you to the dedicated volunteers who gave their time this week! If you are unable to volunteer, you can still help us distribute nutritious food by sending a "Virtual Volunteer" with your financial support. A gift of $52 is equivalent to how much 2 hours of volunteering saves our organization.

Eric & Sandra Ripert Help Feed NYC |
Where to Find Food Now |
Eric Ripert, the Vice Chair of our Board and Chef of the temporarily closed 3-Michelin-starred Le Bernardin, and his wife, Sandra, one of our Gala Co-Chairs, joined us on Saturday to distribute more than 30,000 pounds of food, including cabbage, carrots, pears, and sweet potatoes, to nearly 700 households at our Melrose and St. Mary's Mobile Markets in the South Bronx. A huge thank you to Eric and Sandra for joining us! This week, we will distribute 57,000 pounds of food to more than 1,100 households through our Bed Stuy, Astoria, and Staten Island Mobile Markets. Find out how you can volunteer with us.

We are here to help anyone who may be in need of food. With the economic impact of the crisis becoming a reality, we know that many more New Yorkers will be turning to us for food. We are committed to responsibly continuing our operations and feeding everyone who is relying on us today, and anyone who may need us tomorrow. If you or someone you know needs help, you can find food here.

Our Response Efforts in the Press |
Let's Feed NYC Together |
Our Newsroom is full of recent stories about our response to the crisis. The food distribution at our Melrose Mobile Market was featured on ABC 7, PIX11, News12 Bronx, News12 Brooklyn, and NY1. Our Bed Stuy Mobile Market was also featured on the COVID-19 Live Coverage page of The New York Times. View one of this week's repacks on WCBS and FOX5, and read about some of our food rescues that have been mentioned in The New York Times, WWD, Eater NY, Travel + Leisure, CNBC, Food & Wine, and The Inquisitr, among others. City Harvest was included in the following roundups of organizations to which to donate: Something Navy and Tribeca Citizen. And, Trevor Noah, pictured above, encouraged New Yorkers to support us on last night's The Daily Show. Help us share this coverage and spread the word on social media, making sure to tag @cityharvestnyc!

Over the coming weeks, more NYC families will be turning to us for help putting food on their tables. We are committed to keeping our trucks on the road, rescuing and delivering food for all New Yorkers in need during the COVID-19 crisis. The best way to support our work is by donating funds to help us respond swiftly to the evolving need. Our Board of Directors is matching every $1 donated with $2 of their own, tripling the impact of your support. Just $10 can help feed a family for an entire month. If you've already donated, thank you so much for supporting us so generously. City Harvest has always been about neighbors helping neighbors—and that is truer now than ever before. Please consider donating today.
