Mobile Market Family

 

Twenty years ago, Dana Cowin, City Harvest Food Council Member and former Editor-in-Chief of Food & Wine Magazine, started Share Lunch Fight Hunger because she wanted to do something to help feed children facing hunger in NYC. By passing out lunch bags to friends in the media industry and asking them to donate their lunch money to City Harvest, they raised an incredible $60,000 in just one day. 

Since then, thousands of New Yorkers have come together each spring to support City Harvest’s annual Share Lunch Fight Hunger campaign, raising enough to help provide 37.5 million meals to NYC children and their families. Through hundreds of fundraisers taking place at the same time, New Yorkers demonstrate the power of coming together to make a difference for our city’s kids. Join us by starting a team, and rallying your friends, family, and colleagues to donate. 

Due to the ongoing pandemic and its devastating economic impact, City Harvest’s work is more important than ever. 

Egle, a participant at our Bed Stuy Mobile Market, recently shared her story with us: “I’ve been coming to City Harvest’s Mobile Markets since my son was one year old, and he's 18 now. Whenever the Market is open, I'm here getting food for myself and my three kids. It really does help because during the pandemic, I lost my job, and it’s still very hard now to find a job. I also don't receive food stamps, and prices for everything are going up. There are times when I can't afford what I really need. That's why I come here, to try and feed my kids, and just take it one day at a time.  [This Mobile Market] means a lot. I really appreciate what they do, everybody that helps out and everything. I appreciate City Harvest’s Mobile Markets because there's people out here that need help.”
