Our children are extremely fortunate to have never experienced true hunger or food insecurity, and Caroline and I are very fortunate to not know how terrible it must feel to be unable to properly feed our kids.

However, more than 1.4 million New Yorkers, including ONE IN THREE children, are not so lucky, and they struggle to put healthy meals on their tables. As our city continues to grapple with the devastating economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of New Yorkers relying on City Harvest has skyrocketed, and thousands of our neighbors are turning to food pantries and soup kitchens for the first time. We enjoy some of the world's greatest restaurants, but too much good food from them still goes to waste. There is plenty of food in NYC to feed everyone - people are hungry around us only because we lack the funds for redistribution.

City Harvest is New York’s first and largest food rescue organization, helping to feed millions of New Yorkers who struggle to put meals on their tables. This year, we will rescue 109 million pounds of fresh, nutritious food and deliver it—free of charge—to more than 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, community partners and our own Mobile Markets across the five boroughs. We work alongside our community partners to boost community capacity, expand nutrition education, and strengthen local food systems.
