City Harvest’s mission is to feed hungry New Yorkers by redirecting food that would have gone to waste. You won’t be surprised to learn that this year, the number of people relying on City Harvest has skyrocketed, with thousands of neighbors turning to food pantries for the first time. Nearly 1.5 million people are now food insecure, which represents a 40% increase, and City Harvest has stepped up in a huge way. The 56 million pounds of food our refrigerated trucks delivered between March and August was a 79% increase over the same period last year. (You can read more in this New York Times article.) They’re performing this essential and Herculean task by operating 24 hours a day 6 days a week, and they need our help.

I personally miss volunteering in person at City Harvest’s Food Rescue Facility, but while I'm not in NYC the best I can do is find other ways to help people who don’t have enough to eat (that now includes 1 in 4 children).

From now through the end of the year, I am hosting a virtual food drive to support City Harvest. My ambitious fundraising goal of $6,000 would feed more than 650 New Yorkers for a month! Would you consider helping me get there?
