The Best Holiday Gift: Helping To Feed New Yorkers In Need
When I moved to New York five years ago, I wanted to get involved and support the community in this wonderful, new city I called home. I was lucky enough to find City Harvest, a non-profit with the dual mission of preventing food waste and helping to fellow New Yorkers struggling to put food on their tables.
Since joining their Generation Harvest Board six months ago, my admiration for the organization has only deepened. Because of COVID, one in three New Yorkers are currently relying on soup kitchens and food pantries, and City Harvest has done a truly inspiring job of stepping up to help. Prior to the pandemic, they were giving away over 80 million pounds of food a year. In the last 18 months, they have more than doubled their output and given away nearly 200 million pounds of food to New Yorkers in need.
While the city is finally starting to come back, the increased demand for City Harvest’s services remains due to:
- The end of extended unemployment benefits which puts additional strain on those struggling to make ends meet
- Supply chain issues leading to higher food costs for healthy and nutritious food.
Please consider supporting City Harvest this year. No donation is too small. Just $5 can feed over 14 New Yorkers for a day. $35 helps feed 100 New Yorkers for a day. $70 helps feed 200 New Yorkers for a day. $210 helps feed 600 New Yorkers for a day.
It would mean the world to me and would help so many New Yorkers in need. Thank you for the consideration.
