As many of you know, City Harvest is an organization that holds a special place in my heart. I've been volunteering with them since I was 14 and I'm lucky enough now to serve alongside other passionate young professionals on the Generation Harvest Board--helping to evangelize City Harvest's mission and support grassroots fundraising efforts.

New York’s first and largest food rescue organization, they help to feed millions of New Yorkers every year by helping them put healthy and nutritious food on the table. The holiday season is a time when so many of us have the privilege of sharing meals with our loved ones, and it is even more urgent that we help make that possible for our neighbors in need.

This year, City Harvest will rescue over 111 million pounds of food and deliver it, free of charge, to nearly 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, community partners, and City Harvest operated Mobile Markets across the five boroughs. We work alongside our community partners to boost community capacity, expand nutrition education, and strengthen local food systems.

As New York City begins its long recovery from the pandemic, there are a ton of factors that are contributing to an increased demand that City Harvest is seeing for their services, including:

• The end of many government supports like extended unemployment benefits are putting a squeeze on those who are already struggling.
• Supply chain issues and the rising costs of goods are making it even more difficult to afford healthy, nutritious food

Every $1 donated helps City Harvest feed two New Yorkers for a day. No donation is too small, but see below for some suggested amounts based on food rescue milestones:

• $35 helps feed 100 New Yorkers for a day
• $70 helps feed 200 New Yorkers for a day
• $210 helps feed 600 New Yorkers for a day
