Since March 2020, food insecurity rates in New York City have risen 36% overall, and a sobering 46% among children, according to an analysis by Feeding America. Compared to 2019, average monthly visits to New York City food pantries and soup kitchens are up 69%.  

As the holidays approach, we are seeing grocery prices rise at their fastest rate in 40 years. The cost of groceries is up more than 13%. With holiday staples surging, too, the price of turkeys is up 21% since 2021 – and up 60% since before the pandemic. 

With your help this winter, City Harvest will rescue and deliver enough food to help feed thousands of families across the city for the holidays. As it has done for 40 years, City Harvest continues to work hard, rescuing and delivering as much nutritious food as possible to help ensure every New York City family can put meals on their tables this holiday season.

City Harvest is New York’s first and largest food rescue organization, helping to feed millions of New Yorkers who struggle to put meals on their tables. This year, City Harvest will rescue and distribute more than 75 million pounds of nutritious food to our neighbors in need. City Harvest works alongside it's community partners to boost community capacity, expand nutrition education, and strengthen local food systems.
