2024 Holiday Food Drive Fundraiser

Seventeen and Stronger Than Ever!

Seventeen years ago, we were in the throes of the worst global economic crisis since the Great Depression. While the causes were complex and multi-faceted, the impacts were clear: Massive job losses, foreclosures, and and deep financial distress for millions. The Flyers came together that year to make a difference: We raised thousands of dollars to support local food banks whose demand was soaring. Since then, we've made giving a helping hand in our own community a family tradition, raising close to $60,000 in total to help alleviate hunger in our own community during the holidays.

While recent inflation has abated from its peak, higher prices for just about everything continue to take a hefty bite out of all of our wallets. According to the United Way's April 2023 NYC True Cost of Living Report (copy and paste https://unitedwaynyc.org/true-cost-of-living/ into your browser for access), 50% of working-age households in New York City have difficulty affording the most basic living expenses of rent, utilities, and food. Visits to New York City food pantries and soup kitchens, which surged during the pandemic, remain 60% higher than pre-pandemic levels. Today, more than 1.3 million people in New York City, including one in four children, do not have enough to eat.

City Harvest is New York’s first and largest food rescue organization, collecting perfectly good food that would otherwise go to waste to help feed the millions of New Yorkers who struggle to put meals on their tables. This year, City Harvest will rescue and distribute more than 81 million pounds of nutritious food to our neighbors in need. Redirecting that food to families will also prevent the equivalent of more than 20 million kilograms of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

City Harvest also works alongside community partners to build their capacity, expand nutrition education, and advocate for systems change through effective public policy. Since its founding in 1982, City Harvest has always been there to feed our city—one day, one meal, one New Yorker at a time.

Every $20 donated helps City Harvest feed 45 New Yorkers for a day. By donating, you’ll help keep City Harvest’s trucks on the road and filled with nutritious food for our neighbors in need.
