2025 New York Flyers Holiday Food Drive Fundraiser

Eighteen years and better than ever!

In 2008, perhaps right around the time some of our youngest Flyers were born, New York City was in crisis: The collapse of the housing market and the subprime lending crisis drove the US into a steep recession, resulting in bank failures, job losses, and hunger for millions.  The impact hit hard in our city and community, but the Flyers joined together that year to help:  In the Flyer Holiday Food Drive Fundraiser's first year, we raised thousands of dollars to support local food banks experiencing unprecedented demand. Since then, we've made giving a helping hand close to home a Flyer family tradition, raising over $60,000 in total to help alleviate hunger in New York City during the holidays.

Persistent inflation continues to make the cost of living higher for all of us. Waves of job losses impacting a wide variety of industry sectors and roles notwithstanding, research from Robin Hood and Columbia University has found that 67% of New Yorkers who have made one or more visits to a food bank are employed, a circumstance that emphasizes the rising unaffordability of city life. City Harvest's 2025 Child Hunger Report (copy and paste https://www.cityharvest.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/CityHarvest_ChildHungerReport_FY25.pdf into your browser for access) also notes that one in four children in New York experiences food insecurity, and that New York City has seen a staggering 89% increase in visits to food pantries by families with children since 2019. In addition, uncertainty over when partial to full SNAP benefits will be available is putting tremendous pressure on food banks across the country to make up for the shortfall. As we enter this season of giving, the Flyers continue our tradition of compassion and generosity by supporting City Harvest's mission to alleviate hunger close to home.

City Harvest is New York's first and largest food rescue organization, collecting perfectly good food that would otherwise go to waste to help feed the millions of New Yorkers who struggle to put meals on their tables. In over 40 years serving New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity, City Harvest has rescued more than one billion pounds of fresh, nutritious food and delivered it - free of charge - to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens, community partners, and its own Mobile Markets® across the five boroughs. This year, City Harvest will rescue and distribute more than 86 million pounds of nutritious food to our neighbors in need. By redirecting that food to families, City Harvest will also prevent the equivalent of more than 25.4 million kilograms of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.

City Harvest also works alongside community partners to build their capacity, expand nutrition education, and advocate for systems change through effective public policy. Since its founding in 1982, City Harvest has always been there to feed our city - one day, one meal, one New Yorker at a time.

Every $20 donated helps City Harvest feed 46 New Yorkers for a day. By donating, you'll help keep City Harvest's trucks on the road and filled with nutritious food for our neighbors in need.
