Feeding Hungry People in NYC is a solvable problem!
My children are extremely fortunate to have never experienced what it feels like to truly go hungry.
And we all are very fortunate to not know how terrible it must feel to be unable to properly feed our kids.
However, more than 1.2 million New Yorkers, including one in five children, are not so lucky, and they still struggle to put meals on their tables.
We live in a city with some of the world's greatest restaurants! There are hungry people around us only because we lack the funds for redistribution - there is plenty of food in NYC to feed everyone!
This is a solvable problem!
As you know, I've been a big supporter of City Harvest and currently am a member of the Generation Harvest committee. Thirty-five years ago, City Harvest pioneered food rescue. Since then, they have rescued and delivered over 600 million pounds of food to feed New York City.
This year, City Harvest will collect 61 million pounds of excess food and deliver it free of charge to hundreds of soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs across the five boroughs. By redirecting this nutritious food from supermarkets, manufacturers, farmers markets, and restaurants to our neighbors in need, we can support our local communities and reduce the environmental impact of food that would otherwise go to waste.
Please help me make sure that good food doesn't go to waste when so many people are hungry by donating to my campaign.
