Gina & Henry's City Harvest Fundraiser
Dear Friends and Family,
As you might know, I’ve been involved with City Harvest for a couple of years now. (You might even be one of the 30-plus people who helped me to raise more than $4K last year! Thank you!)
Here is why I am so passionate about City Harvest and its mission. Nearly 1.2 million New Yorkers struggle to put meals on the table. This year, City Harvest will collect more than 61 million pounds of excess food and will deliver it to 400-plus soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs across the five boroughs. By redirecting nutritious food from supermarkets, farmers markets, and restaurants to our neighbors in need, we support our local communities while reducing food waste.
Henry is now familiar with City Harvest’s Food Rescue Facility, where he is an ace at packing up apples to distribute to soup kitchens. He is still trying to grapple with the fact that some kids in NYC are hungry. (More than 515,000 children in NYC live in poverty. That’s nearly 30% of all children living in the city.)
From now through the end of the year, I am hosting a virtual food drive to support City Harvest. My ambitious fundraising goal of $5,000 would feed 600 New Yorkers for a month! Would you consider helping me get there? (Just click here.)
I have a couple added incentives. A generous member of Generation Harvest (the junior board I sit on) has offered to match each donation, so your money goes twice as far. (Plus any matching your corporation does, or any extra Giving Tuesday funds you have access to.) Also, Henry and I will send you two of our favorite holiday recipes—my spinach-gruyere strata, and his chocolate icebox cake.
I will follow up in about a week, and once more before the end of the year. Thank you so much for your consideration.
With love, and best wishes for a warm holiday season,
Gina & Henry
