Now More Than Ever
City Harvest’s mission is to feed hungry New Yorkers by redirecting food that would have gone to waste. You won’t be surprised to learn that this year, the number of people relying on City Harvest has skyrocketed, with thousands of neighbors turning to food pantries for the first time. Nearly 1.5 million people are now food insecure, which represents a 40% increase, and City Harvest has stepped up in a huge way. The 56 million pounds of food our refrigerated trucks delivered between March and August was a 79% increase over the same period last year. (You can read more in this New York Times article.) They’re performing this essential and Herculean task by operating 24 hours a day 6 days a week, and they need our help!
Henry and Charlie really miss City Harvest’s Food Rescue Facility, where they’ve learned to count and pack up apples to distribute to soup kitchens. In the meantime, we’ve been talking a lot about the best ways to help people who don’t have enough to eat. (That now includes 1 in 4 children.)
From now through the end of the year, I am hosting a virtual food drive to support City Harvest. My ambitious fundraising goal of $6,000 would feed more than 650 New Yorkers for a month! Would you consider helping me get there? (Just click here.)
I have a couple of added incentives. A generous member of Generation Harvest (the junior board I sit on) has offered to match each donation, so your money goes twice as far. (Plus any matching your corporation does, or any extra Giving Tuesday funds you have access to.) Also, Henry and Charlie will paint and write thank you postcards for each donor that include a custom compliment.
Union Beer Distributors is generously matching all donations, up to $50,000, made to the Generation Harvest Holiday Giving campaign! Donate today and your gift will be doubled - going twice as far to help New Yorkers in need.
Click “Donate Now” to make a tax-deductible contribution. Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and support!
