Canstruction is a world-wide design/build competition composed of design professionals building a self-supporting sculpture made entirely of unopened cans of food, and it is one of the most remarkable charities in the world. Every year, Silman has proudly partnered with Canstruction NY, SDA, and Brookfield place to participate in one of the largest fundraiser events for City Harvest, New York’s largest food rescue organization, to help feed millions of New Yorkers who struggle to put meals on their tables.  

This year, however, things are different. Due to COVID-19, the number of New Yorkers relying on city harvest has skyrocketed, and thousands of neighbors are turning to food pantries and soup kitchens for the first time, especially communities of color and lower-income neighborhoods whom City Harvest has long served. Canstruction’s fundraising efforts are needed more than ever before.

Although Canstruction NY will have no physical build of our can sculpture this year, Silman is stepping up to design a “virtual” build, and putting our efforts instead into fundraising as much as possible to help keep City Harvest’s trucks filled with food for our neighbors in need. Our team will design a virtual 3D model of our can sculpture “Snooplyn Bridge”, and we need everybody’s help to reach our fundraising goal of $5000 dollars.
